What's the difference between a social media manager (SMM) and a virtual assistant (VA)?

What's the difference between a social media manager (SMM) and a virtual assistant (VA)?

There might just be more to it than you thought! Let's dive in on SMM vs VA, shall we?

  So, here’s the thing. Business owners seem to get SMMs and VAs mixed up – a lot! And that’s probably because a lot of the tasks can cross over, depending on the services certain virtual assistants offer. But here’s the thing, not all VAs offer the same services.

We choose to offer services that;

  1.  We’re efficient in
  2. We’re trained in
  3. We enjoy!

For some VAs, that is heavy on social media. Trained in all aspects from strategy right through to content planning and creation. For other VAs (like me), we prefer to offer ‘back-end’ social media support – because we work with clients who are already on top of their content and know what they want out there.

For instance, I prefer scheduling your content, replying to your comments, your DMs and engaging with your community so you don't have to. That's not to say that I don't know anything about the rest, I do. But I don't enjoy  or specialise in that side of it, so I don't offer it - Simples!

A virtual assistant really is more of a virtual personal assistant/PA, with specialised services. We are not the same as social media management.

Like I said before, there is some cross over for certain VAs who offer both (and I know some who do a bloody good job of it). But a lot of business owners confuse the two as always being the same. You have to do your due diligence and really think about what it is you’re after and what type of support you want or need before outsourcing to one, the other or both.

Your business will always be safe with me, because if I don’t offer it, I won’t say I can do it. This is your business. Your pride and joy. It would be unethical of me to pretend otherwise. I am here to support you on your own social media journey, not replace you, or the want/need for a SMM.

If you're a UK based business owner looking for help with Social media support, email and or diary management or assistance with business admin like data entry, spreadsheet and CRM support etc - I'm your gal!

What do you think, do you agree or disagree? Or have you ever wondered what the difference is? Let me know in the comments!
